Dr Who + Washi Tape = Tardis Card

Every Dr Who fan knows as a crafter there is very little out there in the way of ready to use Dr Who craft stuff.

Soooooooooooooooooooooo imagine the excitement when Clearsnap posted a blog in conjunction with Viva Las Vegas Stamps and gasp, excitement, woo hoo

there was a TARDIS STAMP!!!!

ok so a blue police box aherm. So we had to have it, My Sister, My friend and talented Scrapper Toni and I all got the Unmounted one so that we could all get it with post for $10.50 each. If we had got it with the cling or block mounted it would have shot the postage up.

I was so excited to get my stamp, also having found out the same day I missed my sisters Fiance’s birthday.

I have also been playing a lot with washi tape.

So of course I sat down and this card was born

 photo tardiscard1wglitter_zps25e011a5.jpg

The Washi Tape is from Sawyers Place
I also used a dark purple stickles glitter glue
Some Silver Embossing Powder
A fiskers Happy Birthday Stamp

and Distress inks in various blue shades from memory: Stormy Sky, broken china, salty ocean and blue jeans.

As well as a white gel pen.

Other than the Happy Birthday turning out a bit smudged looking I am quite chuffed at how my first use of this stamp turned out.

Aprils 365 Days of Love Gratitude Journals

Gratitude Notebooks photo notebooks_zpsb6002b99.jpg

These are small notebooks that I covered and decorated fairly simply (I did 21 of these in one hit having 5 already done and needing to add a few more to the pile)

They all have some variation of this written inside:

Dear Wonderful You,

Please use this notebook as a gratitude journal by writing 5 things you are grateful for in it everyday.

Love a friend

Bear in mind they are only small notebooks and I only wrote on the first page 🙂

not sure what I am doing for May yet and honestly it may be the end of the month or next month before I get to it but be assured I will.

12 Tags of 2013 (or my take 12 mixed media journal pages)

I Hi everyone.

I know cutting it fine, but life has been a bit of a roller coaster of late to say the least.

I have spent the last two days working on my version of Tims March Tag.

I will post the pic then break it down for you all 🙂

 photo marchmixedmedia_zps0cdbf6ca.jpg

my idea started with cutting some tissue paper into strips (I just folded it over a few times so it made really long strips), and then using some of the left over mist I had made for my bear (a mix of stream colour wash and mowed lawn re inker) and misted it, tossing it around as I went to get a semi even coating. I then misted over it again with a pearl mist that I made using perfect pearls ‘pearl’ and water.

I dried my ‘grass’ and then painted my journaling page with Stormy Sky and Mowed lawn distress stains.

Used some multi medium over the mowed lawn and started laying down my ‘grass’ strips.  I also added extra at the top I did little V shapes and at first pasted them with the V point facing up then did them facing down, did another layer of strips, and added in some scrunched up along the top to create a morefluffy grass like texture.

I got a new stamp this week an Imaginisce snag em stamp of a Chick and I could not resist using it on my page. So using inspiration from Dyan Reaverly I could not resist stamping the wee chick onto my page and also stamping them onto some plain white cardstock and painting them in Distress ink 🙂 I did however also grab my trusty prima craft knife and cut out the wing so that it looked like they could also flap away, I added a little glitter to the flowers on them with some glue gloss, and could not resist finishing one off with a smidge of Brown paper twine so it looked a little like it had a worm in its beak. I also added a little extra grass so it looked like my birdie was resting in the grass.

I then felt like getting a little bit more background texture so used a spotty piece of grungeboard that I have as a stencil and added some spots in Malted Milk paint dabber, then used Cool perri paint dabber to over Tattered Angels glimmer screen of a butterfly, and then also misted over it with Purple Twilight Colour wash. I did a simmilar thing on the other side with a flourish stencil, however I misted and then painted so it gave a more muted effect.

I added in my addage ticket. For me easter is a time of hope. Used some seasonal chit chat words in my grass.

Then used a grungeboard circle to create my sun. The Sun is  coloured with terracotta paint dabber and then I melted lemon fantasy film over the top to create my Sun.

Then It was time for my butterflies, I don’t own the bunny die. I do however own the silver tinsel twine however I chose not to use it. Not because I did not think the technique Tim showed us with the melting and the alcohol ink was not awesome but because it is an easter page and I really loved the idea of using easter egg foil instead. So I did. It appeals to me in a few ways its a free resource, its recycling and its always pretty colours and so shiny. I also inked around the edges of the Almanac Paper with some vintage photo and did the same for the butterflies I used later.

I cut my butterflies out of Almanac paper from Prima just to add a little of an old world look to match the Hope tag and because  I have to be honest and say I really love the complete mish mash of the Distress/old look mixed with the pastels and brighter flowers.

I then cut out some tattered florals flowers from white cardstock, Used distress stains over them, misted over them with my trusty home made pearl mist and dried them.

I then layered them and moulded them a little adding in a button to their centers that had some of the lime and white paper twine through the holes in the buttons.

I then added some rhinestones to the positive butterfly images and added them to the page

Lastly I doodled in with a white paint sharpie the stems and leaves of my flowers painted over a coat of distress stain dabbing it off to keep it light and then used a Zig writer to go around the edges so the would pop a little more.

And there you have it my journey to my Mixed Media page for March. I know its Autumn in Australia I just really love the pastels and easter colours.

Happy Creating everyone.

Another Colour Challenge

Well this was a one of those UFO’s I had sitting around for some time. I just could not figure out how to finish the tin after I had covered it in pp.

A colour challenge popped up on Jelly bean scrappers that fit the colours of the pp I used and so I pulled it out and of course used my fav Rose Creations dies to create a pretty flower for the top, added in some flourishes and some lace tape (I needed to use multi medium in matt to get it to stick), added in some other flowers

and hey presto a project I had been stuck on for ages became finished 🙂

A recent layout.

So as most of my friends know I have been industriously working on a Design Team entry for the last couple of weeks.

I love the products and range of the person whose DT it is even if their stuff is darn hard to get down under so I spent last year squirrilling away what I could and asking for some as Christmas Presents (sadly did not get)

anyway this layout I like but it felt like I was trying to hard to make it something it wasn’t it just did not flow. I think at some point I will go back and outline the chipboard letters just to make them pop a little more.

This is a photo of my youngest niece Tiana giving me a makeover on Christmas a couple of years ago.

I really like the flowers down the bottom they turned out cute and I do like the layout it just feels a little flat. As I said I was forcing it and trying to hard. Something I know from experience rarely works for me. I need to flow with my work and just play. The best of us forget this sometimes.

Anyway the layout:

ATC Swap: Little Houses

Recently at Jellybeans we had an ATC swap with the theme little houses. How perfect I thought as I had gotten a wee quickutz die of a little house.

So I decided to cut all the elements of the little houses out of double sided jac paper and glitter my houses after all who else would do sparkle houses?

I also used my distress stains to create the background and a franchville glitter buttony thing to create my moon.

The pic are not very good sorry but anyone who has tried to take photos of glitter knows how hard it can be so forgive the poor quality of the pic 🙂

It does look a lot better in person but I thought they turned out rather cute 🙂

A Little bit of Love

This year I am undertaking a project it started as 365 days of love letters to strangers but is evolving into something that encompasses everything from letters, cards and postcards (all handmade by me) to small handmade items and other such things.

It is quite exciting to see what I will come up with next for this project think of it like a giant year filled with random acts of kindness. Imagine walking along and finding a letter or small gift from a stranger just for you for no reason other than to let you know you are cared for. 365 Days of Love. I am sharing everything I write on my Heavenly Musings Blog

So it will take a few posts but I really want to share what I have been creating especially as I have really enjoyed the process.

Lets start with some postcards (using tattered angels stamps and various other things and lots of distress and Tim Holtz stuff of course)
This was just me playing and stepping out of my ‘usual’ style a bit
 photo ll12_zps16e21142.jpg

I think this next postcard is on of my favorites. I really love the way the salty ocean stain and Picket fence paint dabber mixed to create the ocean, plus I love blending the stains to create beautiful sunsets its really easy and effective.

 photo ll11_zpsfd0b0501.jpg

Anyone who knows me knows how much I adore my midnight fairy stamps. I totally love how sponging a little pewter stain over 3 different blue stains gives this a more mystical look

 photo ll20_zps47a4a706.jpg

and finally for this post another sunset with something else I am rather addicted to butterflies

A Different sort of Valentines Card

This card was a great challenge from Ann on Jellybean Scrappers. It was to create a card with embossing and metal on it.

 photo annjan.jpg

The most time consuming part other than trying to get the pewter stain into all the nooks and crannys (TIP stain first then emboss) was glittering the crack. Glue Gloss and a bit of patience are required.

Then it was a sizzix heart die cut out of black cs covered in copper tape and a wee quickutz cupid and viola a card 🙂

12 Journaling Pages Febuary (AKA my version of 12 tags of 2013)

I had so much fun creating my journaling pages for this month. I was a bit worried because I only have two of the Distress Markers at present though I did use my worn lipstick one which we will get to in a minute.

I am so happy with how this months turned out here is the pic:
 photo febuary_zpsfb84e631.jpg
I know the technique for this month was about colouring with distress markers but as I said my stash is seriously lacking in them. So instead I created a background using ranger paint dabbers (both ranger and Jenni Bowlin ones I am absolutely addicted to her Malted Milk dabber such a great colour to play with)

I first took my lightest pink (shell pink) and rubbed it over both pages, dried it with my heat gun then went over it with Malted Milk the idea is to leave some blank spaces and spots where the white shows through the pink to be filled in by the malted milk and some where the pink shows through stronger. I then used a paint brush and dipped it into the lids of Raspberry, Chewing gum and snow cap and flicked it one by one over the pages (I dried between colours so they each popped more) and that is the background finished.

Next I used some thin chipboard from a cereal packed and Quickutz’s branch die (I altered this slightly by cutting off a branch and placing it elsewhere to give a more even flow to the branches). I painted it in malted milk, then dabbed over some expresso and a little sunshine yellow then cut it to fit my pages and stuck it down with glossy accents.

I then used sizzix and cuttlebug dies for the hearts and cut them out of white cs. They were coloured with worn lipstick distress stain, splattered with some tarnished brass stain and then edged in worn lipstick distress marker. (told you I got the marker in there somewhere) before being glued onto the branches. Then it was a matter of using some glue gloss (am totally addicted to it) and sprinkling with some Ranger Dry stickles to make the hearts sparkly. I lastly chose words from Tim’s Chit Chat stickers (in seasonal and everyday?) and used a little glossy to stick them in place.

I used one of His tags that I stained in picked raspberry distress stain and snow cap stain. Added in a cs cupid cut from another quickutz die.

Then used some tissue tape to form the bottom and some pretty circle embellishments and a button from Tattered Inspirations and viola another mixed media journal page is done 🙂

A little Tattered Inspirations

I am so lucky to be on the guest DT for Tattered Inspirations. Every parcel you receive from Carol’s etsy store is like getting an amazing gift no matter how small your order is. It is packaged with a lot of love and care.

I was so happy to have two kits to work with a blossoms and a valentines kit. Here is what I got including the extras and wrapping:
(pic to come)
The first thing in my mind that I wanted to try was Claudine Helmouths techniques with Multi Medium and transfering images onto fabric.
I love how the images turned out and the addition of the burnt edges gave them a more romantic old world charm.

Inspired by Donna Salazar’s work with Corrugated cardboard and my love of recycling I turned a box flap into an album. (you paint one side of the flap with water let it seep in and peel back to reveal some or all of the corrugated card underneath), I painted it white and then used matt multi medium and glittered each piece before sticking the flat sides together.

Then it was just a matter of choosing quotes and assembling my wee album with some jump rings. I then pulled out my score board and made a lovely red box for the Album to sit in and viola a valentines day gift of a lovely romantic sort for someone very special (it could easily with the changing of a few quotes make a lovely mothers day gift or friendship gift.)
