SYD D Day 3 – Card 3

Soo I am falling a bit behind, however today was one of those hours and hours sorting and putting away craft supplies kind of days (Thank Goodness for the Game of Thrones Season 3 Marathon). Though I did Manage to do this Day 3 Card

Ingredients: Sizzix Triplets Balloon Die(Heart), Memory Box die Sideshow Tickets, Big Shot, Memory Box Modern Cloud Cover Stencil (I need to practice the layering clouds thing most of mine seem to have got a bit lost), Ink Blending Tool, Distress Water Colour paper, Hero Arts Stamp Set ‘Happy Day Animals’, Archival Ink in Jet Black, Doodlebug Twine in Cupcake, and Nail Art Nail heads (I think they are called).

My goodness time flies

As always Tim Holtz had some great ideas and techniques for this months tag.

I am a huge fan of recycling or upcycling in my crafts so always love using boxes and their corrugated cardboard for projects

I could not find my stamping film so used some Mona Lisa variagated Gold Leaf instead

I love this tag. In case you do not know this already I really love butterflies they are a huge symbol in my life .

When I saw the tag I thought it would be so great to play with In fact I ended up with a few extra backgrounds just from what I had on my craft mat.

I was aiming for a sort of sunset sky look to my background, I really need to get one of the brighter orange distress paints for my collection.

I am so happy with how this turned out and have to say totally loving the Distress Stain Sprays just so totally awesome 🙂

12 Tags of 2014 – September

I was so excited when I saw this Months tag Tim Holtz is really bringing some colour and fun into the tag this month with what is a huge symbol in my life Butterflies. And better yet I actually had all the right product to do my own take on this months tag.

I am super happy with how it turned out, the only thing being that the pic does not show up the Alcohol Ink background technique,

When I saw the original tag I knew I had to have a play, making fluttering butterflies has been a staple of my crafting since I first began my tentative steps into the wonderful world of papercrafting. In fact I was heartbroken last year when my favorite butterfly punch (I own very few punches as I really do not use them much but this one I used a lot) died it was only $2 and I got a good 8 years out of it so not to bad at all anyway The New Butterfly frenzy die makes me very happy as it is much easier to use than a punch and gives loads of shapes and sizes.

So here is my Tag, I decided I wanted to use my New French Flight Framelits and Stamp Set and so below is my take on this Months tag 🙂

SYS 2 Day 3 – Card 1

I used Distress inks for this. I am new to the sponge Duabers and think I actually find the mini blending tool a lot easier to work with but guessing in time I will get better practice after all makes perfect

Mine turned out a bit different as I used a piece of textured grungeboard for one of my butterflies

though I do really love the sugared effect of the Rock Candy Glitter

Can you believe how fast this year is flying. I feel like I am constantly behind in projects.

And here is my Journaling pages, I do not as yet have any of the Layering stencils so improvised using some

Crafters workshop, Kaiser, Donna Salazar, glimmer screens, and one or two stencils found in local cheapie shops and one home made stencil made from Tim’s big clock die and some plastic packaging

I also used home made mists, distress ink in various colours, Picket fence stain, Modeling paste (as I have none of the Stuff Tim used as yet), Various Tim Stamps, A blending tool, Archival Jet Black ink and some chit chat stickers.

Here it is:

I started with a crafters workshop clock stencil, and added modeling paste, then used the Donna Salazar Stencil (spotty heart) with the picket fence stain. A bit of a learning curve and had to refer back to the tutorial hence th smudges and mistakes

and then I misted and layered and layered and played and layered a bit more, added in the butterflies, stamped and kind of just played.

It feels a little chaotic to me, but I think I like it anyway. I love that it is yet another way I get to step out of my safe little comfort zones.

Anyway almost time for October and my birthday 🙂

Take Flight

This is my other entry for the art competition ‘Take Flight’

Utalising mostly Tim Holtz and ranger products

The background was done using layered distress stains and Tim’s famous spritz and flick technique. Sealed with Claudine Hellmouths Multi Medium and the butterflies are cut from Tim’s movers and shapers butterflies.

Along with some drops of triple thick to replicate rain and an American Crafts Metallic marker for the center of the butterflies.

May’s Mixed Media Journal Take on 12 Tags

I am unbelievably late with my May take on Tim’s  12 tags.

My only excuse is that I have spent most of the month working on 2 pieces for my very first art competition. Which I will share with you all soon.

I am not lucky enough at present to own any of the Rubz, but did make and loose a sheet of my own rub ons of a sort (a technique I will share here for turning any stamp into a rub on type image using the plastic packaging most embellishments come in)

You can see where I used them on the first page at the side and down the bottom, unlike most rub ons they have no missing bits for the colour to absorb into.

I also used some Kaiser Bonjour rub ons in random places as per Tim’s technique.

Used a mix of distress stains for my background which I feel like I am slowly starting to get the hang of as you can see on the 2nd page.

I used Ranger’s 12×12 manilla cut to size for my Donna Downey Art Journal I was sent in a swap last year.

The Stamp I used in the Center is one I picked up at a local red cross shop for $5 I fell in love with the renaissance feel of it and whilst I do not often buy wood mounted stamps owing to the space they take up I just had to have this one.

Not having any of the enamel tags as yet I did some experimenting to figure out how best to create my own faux enamel look and believe me it was a learning curve in the end I simply used Rangers embossing dabber over a cut circle of chipboard and sprinkled over hero arts white embossing powder and then after I heated it added another coat of the embossing powder and heated it until smoothish.

I then added another bonjour rub on and an idealogy chit chat word sticker. Then inked around the edge in Archival Jet Black ink and smudged a little around for effect

Added some tissue tape with a little diamonte bling.

Decorated a fragment pendant thingy by again white embossing the back and putting a bonjour rub on on the front and adding a Diamonte chain to it

and thats it pretty simple this month other than a little inking of the edges with a blending tool and some Archival Jet Black

I did look at this for a while and wonder if I wanted to add anything else, I am sure I could probably add more but will leave it as is sometimes uncluttered is a good thing.

Denim Mini Album

For about a year or so now I have been totally enchanted by Donna Salazars work with reclaimed denim from her headbands and hand made flowers and embellishments.

Recently I found a 50c clothing section in one of my local op shops and scored 3 pairs of jeans. One was so lovely with embroidered pockets when I discovered they would fit a friend I told her they were hers until they fell appart then they were mine lol. It was a bit of a wrench to part with them because there is the most adorable little embroidered pocket on the front.

Anyway I have pulled appart and cut up one of the pairs and when I got my New Big Shot this week (thanks to an amazing and generous friend) I did some cutting out of the denim and played a bit with some embossing and Inking.

What I have learned is that Denim is a great canvas for ink, it embosses like a dream and is quite a versatile medium.

Steel rule dies are the best to cut through the fabric however as long as you do not mind having to do a little cutting, the thin metal dies work pretty well.

I used a combination of Quickutz and M Press Dies for this album as well as one of the reclaimed denim pockets:

I decorated the pocket to match the Album cover with an M-Press Heart that had been embossed with a Cuttlebug Script folder.

The album is cut from the Quickutz Santa’s Workshop Die Set, I used part of the elastic stretch section of the Jeans as a sort of Handle, all the pages are embossed with an M Press Butterflies embossing folder and then inked over.

and from the back:

The Inside Pages: have spaces added for small photos with more quickutz dies, and random stickers and rub ons from my stash.(not sure of the stickers but the rub ons are from Kaiser Sweet Nothings and bon jour)

I also cut out two pieces of denim for each page though honestly it was quite a sturdy denim and would have been fine as indavidual pages. I used OK to wash it glue to stick it all together, MM Crystal brads to hold it all together

and thats it one Denim Mini Album stored in a Denim Pocket. I may end up cutting out a word from Denim and adding it to the pocket just to tie it all together a little better.

Butterfly Garden Matchbox

This matchbox had been sitting partially finished in my stash since last year. Ever have that thing where you start something, it doesn’t fit the swap or person it’s intended for and you kind of loose the flow of what you are doing so it sits around waiting for you to discover how to finish it?

I had created the matchbox and wee book prior to knowing who my swap partner was (look back to the faux grimoire matchbox to see what I did for the swap) and of course it was completely unsuitable for that person.

So recently I found some wee rub ons I had bought from my local spotlight on sale. They worked so well with the wee book I thought why not and finally finished the matchbox (always a good feeling when you finish a project that has been waiting a while)

So here it is (I am so pleased with how this turned out I just love the butterfly garden papers by Pink Paisley hard to get now but so glad I have them in my stash. This is an ordinary matchbox I recycled.

and that’s it there isn’t any more.
