365 Days of Love -May

 photo maylove_zps3f7d2995.jpg

It has been a very full and kind of crazy month last month. With the art competition taking up the majority of my free time and teaching craft classes, as well as life in general.

I honestly thought I would be much further behind on this project however cleaning out my craft drawers I came accross a checkbook filled with ‘love cheques’ of various types and had a great idea what better way to embrace sharing love than by enabling whoever finds these little packages to share them with someone they care about.

So I cut out some pattern papers to wrap around the cheques and created cards with the leftover offcuts.

The cards say ‘Happiness comes through doors you didn’t even know you left open’

Inside each card is some version of this

Dear Amazing You,

It is so easy to take those we love and care about for granted. Please use this ‘love cheque’ to show someone you love that you care about them.

Never forget to take the opportunity to tell those closest to you how much you care.

Love a Friend

Dr Who + Washi Tape = Tardis Card

Every Dr Who fan knows as a crafter there is very little out there in the way of ready to use Dr Who craft stuff.

Soooooooooooooooooooooo imagine the excitement when Clearsnap posted a blog in conjunction with Viva Las Vegas Stamps and gasp, excitement, woo hoo

there was a TARDIS STAMP!!!!

ok so a blue police box aherm. So we had to have it, My Sister, My friend and talented Scrapper Toni and I all got the Unmounted one so that we could all get it with post for $10.50 each. If we had got it with the cling or block mounted it would have shot the postage up.

I was so excited to get my stamp, also having found out the same day I missed my sisters Fiance’s birthday.

I have also been playing a lot with washi tape.

So of course I sat down and this card was born

 photo tardiscard1wglitter_zps25e011a5.jpg

The Washi Tape is from Sawyers Place
I also used a dark purple stickles glitter glue
Some Silver Embossing Powder
A fiskers Happy Birthday Stamp

and Distress inks in various blue shades from memory: Stormy Sky, broken china, salty ocean and blue jeans.

As well as a white gel pen.

Other than the Happy Birthday turning out a bit smudged looking I am quite chuffed at how my first use of this stamp turned out.

A Washi Tape Card

 photo scard_zps88d4a120.jpg

This card was done super quick (and I mean like in about 20mins). It was for my Nieces birthday even though it turned out far more Masculine than I intended for it to.

I have been playing with decorated masking tapes and washi tape cards lately using my score board to get the lines needed to cover over. Though you can tell I was in a hurry as one of my lines is still wonky even with a guide.

I used my envelope guide and did my lines 3/4″ appart 3 on each corner then added the washi tape over the lines. Pretty simple but effective and something I will try again the next time I need a masculine card.

Kaiser Cards (from Chapter one and Sweet Nothings Pads)

I recently challenged myself to use pretty much only the paper pads and what was in them to create these two cards. Although I couldn’t resist adding the red roses to the Chapter one card for a little pop of colour.

I got the Chapter one Paper Pad when spotlight had them on sale because It is not colours that I would normally use and I knew it would challenge me. I cut the 2nd scalloped strip from a piece of pp in the stack (you can tell which is the hand cut one), This is for a friends birthday.

This card is completely from Kaisers Sweet Nothings paper pad (I love that pad so much a friend sent me an extra one)

It was made as a thank you card for a friend.

It was really hard to not at least ink the edges of things and to add a little of this or that but overall I am really pleased with the results of these cards.

A Travel inspired card with a twist

 photo dreamcard_zps936fe404.jpg

This was made for a friend who loves the colour pink and has always wanted to travel.

I used a combination of Tim Holtz Air Travel and Mpress stamps. Some ranger adirondak and jenni bowlin paint dabbers, a background technique I will share a tutorial on next month (I am completely swamped this month with some artworks for a local art comp), some gold embossing powder.

The brad was one I had in my Stash that I covered in Malted Milk Paint Dabber, and the Quote stamp I think is a scrappy cat one.

I was really happy with how unique this card turned out I so hope she will love it and it will remind her to never stop reaching for her Dreams.

A very Special Engagement Card

My Sister and her Boyfriend got engaged recently. So being me I of course wanted to be the first to make them a card.

There was a great challenge at Jellybeans last month to create a card using layers and circles, something I am not very good at so it was quite a challenge for me even more so as my bug is dying and only cuts on one side so every circle had to be cut twice to actually work.

It is no secret that my sisters favorite colour is purple so I pulled out a couple of sheets of paper from the meddow lark paper pad. And started to play.

It took me a while to get it to all work together and I ended up using the leftovers to create the heart and circle on the front (the triple thick seems to have made the paper pinker than it actually is in the center)

I really love how the mulberry butterfly almost looks pressed in this.

and here it is my sisters engagement card (though the layers show up stronger in person as there is mounting tape between each one)

A little bit more love

I really love how this one turned out the quote is one I resonate with and I am still getting the hang of layering with stains and stuff so it is interesting to see how things turn out at times

 photo ll16_zps4986dea7.jpg

I have to say no matter how many times I use it I love the swish and flick technique of Tim’s its so handy and can add some pretty funky splatters to your work

 photo ll15_zps3646b765.jpg

another fav is to use distress inks as watercolours like in this postcard of a very sweet fairy scene

 photo ll14_zps8a8a5f67.jpg

sometimes a bit of funky doodling works well. I used American Crafts metallic markers on this and really love how it turned out.

 photo ll21_zpsc5583470.jpg

as there are only a couple more postcards I want to share I will add them here 🙂 then onto some simple cards

I love this Kaiser stamp and the gradation of the stains even though its really hard to see in the photo
