Dusk and Halloween Themed Baby Shower Set

I have been waiting to share this set of things with you until after the event. A wonderful friend and adopted daughter in the States is pregnant YAY and as a small gift to her I made her baby shower invites, thank you cards and wish cards so people can write their wishes for Daphane when she is born.

You may remember the Jemima Puddleduck birth announcements I did well they are for the same person. I am so Happy for Leah and Brandon.

As soon as she told me the theme was dusk and halloween I knew I had to use the child on a swing stamp from MPress (sorry I have been looking and looking but not been able to find this stamp anywhere if anyone has a link to somewhere that has them in stock can you please comment with it as I know a few people dying to get their hands on it!), the thing that took the longest were the embossed spider webs but I think they really made the invite. Add to this the baby’s room will be done with birds and you have the thank you cards as well.

The first pic is the set of 3 so you can see how it all works together

and the wish tags

I was so happy not only with how all of these turned out but also with the reaction of the person I sent them to. It is always wonderful when someone loves what you have created for them.

So next time your going to or throwing a baby shower create wish tags for the unborn child. It is something they can keep forever and just that little something a bit different.

12 Tags of 2012 August!

Wow how time is flying in the midst of being surrounded by black, spiderwebs, swings and dusty concord watercoloured cardstock I saw this months amazing tag.

My mind started to tick into overdrive and so amidst the Dusk/Halloween themed baby shower invites this months Coaster was born.

I don’t have a lot of the stuff Tim used, but did get the Royal Roses Dynamics Die this week and some time ago get one of the Texture fades sets with a frame add into this an Inkadinkado Frames stamp set, a little imagination by using a cameo ( a few years ago packs of cameos were going cheap at spotlight I snagged quite a few pre the cameo craze).

No tattered florals here either so I kept this very simple. Used black embossing powder on the frame, embossed around it and followed the other instructions even used Kraft Core for my flowers.

Add in some inked Girls Papierie word Stickers that I inked so they fit the theme and viola this months coaster is finished (I am so excited as I can see the project I have in mind totally comming together can not wait to have 12 of these)

anyway enough rambling here is my Coaster (remember less room on a 4″x4″ coaster)

Day 10 wish it was not the end

And after two amazing weeks it is almost time to say goodbye to Creative Chemistry just the wrap up today and then thats it there isn’t anymore

it has been an amazing couple of weeks filled with loads of learning. Would like to say a huge thank you to Tim and to Mario for an Amazing fortnight of fun and creativity.

and to the last tag a technique with stickles. I do not have the rock candy distress stickles so used brushed pewter. For some reason was totally in the mood for black and white so here is my tag

and that is Fin complete there isn’t any more for this class at any rate 🙂

Day 9 experiments

So after reading the PDF’s I rushed off to experiment and as usual got my instructions and things confused along the way but thought would share them anyway

The first two are tags I did stamping with versamark (sorry not a fan of perfect medium I know I know but for me versa is the better choice to each their own) also wanted to see what these would look like on black cardstock

and with Perfect pearls splattered onto the dry background then misted and heat gunned have to say totally loved this as it set the pearls with some texture and a bit 3d and as they were misted with water and heat set they have stayed put will be using this in my art journal in the near future

Day 8 Let’s Paint

Have to say had a bit of a challenge with the canvas technique as I do not own any sticky back canvas and thought (somewhat foolishly it seems) that I could use the offcut of artist canvas I got from a local art store. Unfortunately did not know it was not primed and could not work out why it was not working for me. (Insert trumpet sounds here like the riding to the rescue sort) Along comes a good friend who points out the Monte Marte Canvas pad is the same a sticky back canvas, though not as thick as the artist canvas it is also pre primed. It worked and I was able to pull off the resist technique without a hitch upon using the Canvas Pad.

Also wish my rock candy crackle paint was a little less watery. However onto the tags

Day 7

Now you will note I have skipped a day, I am still not quite vibing with distress markers (have two so that may be why or just not quite in the right headspace as yet). So I know I will go back to that lesson and the tags at some point however I love to emboss and some lessons come easier than others. My embossing tags seemed to fall into place so easily. I adore the faux rust technique, cannot wait to have a craft iron that will take off the embossing powder for the batik look and love how my distress embossed tag turned out (not to self always shake the distress embossing powder)

Day 5 Week One Over

Photobucket

And the first week is caught up on. You may notice my blog posts are short and sweet at the moment. There are two reasons for this one I am sick as with an infection at the moment and two we are not allowed to share the techniques we learn in class on our blogs and such as it is such a cheap class and you get lifetime access to it. It would not be fair to do so.

Anyway onto day 5

Photobucket

Stained Kraft Resist Technique- now at present I do not own any Kraft resist, so what is a girl to do? Exactly what I did for 12 tags make my own. Now as T!m says the Kraft resist is able to be heated. The same can’t be said for the home made version! My advice is DO NOT REHEAT IT! Have patience and actually allow your tag time to dry between coats.

Stamping with Stains

And finally for week 1  Marbled stains (not to happy with my stamping on this one as it did not turn out fully stamped  I will in all likely hood at some point re do this tag)

Photobucket

Day 4

Photobucket

Photobucket

Water colouring with re-inkers. How could I resist my papermania fairy stamps for this and of course butterflies. The fairy, butterflies and background were all done with this technique and I could not resist using some of the bling tape a friend sent me from the states on this tag.

Photobucket

Layered Misting Technique- I used my home made glimmer mists that I had already made up. I am so happy with how this turned out considering the stencils were also home made from plastic packaging and Tim’s cogs and gears die.

Photobucket

Custom Stamp Pad- I only have the cut and dry that has the black and white sides to it. So I used this with the Umbrella man stamp and have to say I quite like how it turned out.

Photobucket

this is what I used instead of the Ink Tray, it is what I had and honestly I like having lids for things especially as I am a total klutz

Photobucket

Day 3

Photobucket
It was fun playing on day 3. The only problem I had is that the only glossy card stock I have is in thin strips but as usual I tend to make the most of what I do have.

Photobucket

Alcohol Inks Agate technique

Photobucket

Archival Resist Technique- only having one colour of Archival ink Jet Black I had to improvise so used TPC’s ink cubes designed specifically for acrylic stamps (I so want the full pads of quite a few of the colours I adore these inks). Lucky for me it worked. Then I went a smidge nuts with some rock star stamps because I had not used them before.

Photobucket

Stamping with reflections- Unfortunately I do not own any reflections stamps as yet, or many embossing folders that have free space. However am still quite pleased with how my version of this turned out even if  I had to make a  different size tag to accommodate my effort

Photobucket

Day 2 with a twist

Photobucket

Now the tags in my previous post are actually my 2nd lot of tags for two of the techniques as I kind of mixed them up and put my own twist on them

Photobucket

My Watercolour distress fairy is misted over the top of, allowed to wick a little then dabbed off quickly with a paper towel to stop it wicking too much.
Why am I sharing it with you as the technique we were taught Tim states not to mist over the top. Well because sometimes breaking the rules yields a result you just have to share. I am so pleased with how arty and like a painting this image turned out.

Photobucket

The other tag I mixed up the wrinkle free distress and the water flicking technique however I am so happy again with how it turned out I have to share it

Photobucket

As Tim say’s its all about experimenting and trying new things.
