12 Tags of 2014 – July

I know cutting it fine yet again….

I have had this almost finished for about a week but was stuck on what I wanted the finishing touches to be.

There were so many awesome techniques it was hard to decide what I wanted to do.

Click here to see the original and to learn the techniques

I used some plastic packaging, the Cracked embossing folder, Peacock feathers distress – ink, paint, stain and marker (I know), silver distress paint, A muse token, the paper twine in striped, rock candy crackle, milled lavender stain and paint, Worn Lipstick (I think) paint, Picked Raspberry Marker, Mini Gears and a wing from that Idea-ology set as well as grungeboard from a basics plain set (the heart and wing), film strip ribbon, and Linen ribbon (I know my how my stash has grown). I also used the Spritzer and my new fav go to must have tool wish I had had one sooner the Tiny Attatcher.

Here is my Tag

july tag

It is funny how things that look so simple can be so involved I used the paint and stain technique for the background tag, the embossed plastic, the stained crackle (although mine does not show as much), the outlining with a distress marker though I slightly blended it for the look I wanted). The only technique I have yet to try is the making of my own sand and that is on my list to try at some point I have an idea in mind for it actually.

So that is my Tag for July wonder what August will bring 🙂

12 Tags of 2014- June

Oh My goodness it feels like time flies and I am always doing things at the last minute lately

I totally love the technique for this months Tag and had a basic Idea I wanted to try though far less colourful

I love the stencil I used from crafters workshop (and can not wait to get my hands on some of Tim’s I have one on its way here atm) everything else, the inks, the stamps is all from the Distress and Tim Holtz lines of products.

I sat with it for 2 days and as much as part of me wants to add to this I so love the simplicity of it I have decided to leave it be and let it be simple.

I really love how the spooky trees stencil works so well with the distress browns. I adore this elephant stamp and have been itching to use it since I got it for a bargain price on ebay (under $10 can you believe I got that set so cheap)

Anyway this is my Tag: Hope you enjoy it!!

May tag

My take on Tim’s May tag.

Have to say this was a bit difficult for me as I am not great with straight lines and well tons of stuff on one thing (I have always struggled with what I tend to think feels a bit cluttered)

Anyway the Paper Is a mix from 2 diff Kaiser Pads (I am yet to have any of the Tim Holtz stuff but have some on it’s way at long last)

Vintage Photo Distress ink and a couple of various brown stains.

Idea-ology, mirrored sheeting as well as watch parts and a Kaiser rub on.

As well as a Sizzix ornate fram die cut and Tim Holtz movers and shapers Butterfly.

I am rather proud of how this turned out some wonky edges and all.

March tags

Of Course this is inspired by Tim’s original Tag.

This month focused on 2 main things Smudge stamping a technique I really love to give a fuzzy worn look to images and things and the new craft spritzer.  Which I have yet to add to my stash.

I did two lots of tags for this month because I ruined the first set you know that gut wrenching feeling when you use a colour that is normally light and it goes on way to dark yep that happened.

Anyway I used a Hero Arts Burlap Background stamp in Picked Raspberry just for something a little different. Smudged (See Tims Blog post for the technique)

Then used the Compass and the butterfly stamp from my Tim Stamp Stash.

Also using the same technique.

I added a quote from Tim’s say it stamps and some tissue   tape and viola this months tag.

I rather like the pinkness of it as its something a little different for me.

12 Tags Febuary

I can not believe how fast this month has flown by, I have so much to share on here but may not get to catch up on all of it.

Anyway Tim’s Tag as always is awesome and I totally adore the chalkboard technique.
Febuary photo 12tagsfeb_zps277155d9.jpg
To start with I did a stained background with tea dye and a couple of other brown toned stains mine turned out a bit darker than Tims but I quite like the effect.

I do not own a heart stencil so created one using clear die packaging and some quickutz dies, a tip as it does not cut all the way through, use a craft knife to start and gentle push the rest of the die out and you will get a much smoother finish.

I followed the instructions for the rest of course putting my own spin on it.

I used DCWV Glitter Paper and traced around it with a felt tip pen to make it pop a bit more, I did also ink around the edges of the glitter paper.

And that is is for another Month my Tag of Love 🙂

12 Tags inspired OTP

As always inspired by the techniques of Tim Holtz

I really love the embossed foil tape technique so much so I used it Last year to create a mask (the technique cropped up in CC2 from memory)

I really love how the foil tape covers the shape of the Mask so well and gets all the contours without difficulty.

The Mask was a cheap one from ebay that I took the fabric and other tacky stuff that was on it off. What I have discovered is that the pre made masks are stronger and better to work with than the paper mache kind and often cheaper and some are lined as an added bonus for comfort.

Anyway here is the Mask

and from each side (I used some watch parts and mini cogs and gears from ideaology)

 photo side1_zps92b0c377.jpg

It was a birthday gift for a friend. It has a Game of thrones, Dr Who (insert other cool nerdy references here) type feel to it.

I was really happy with the end result.

If you want to do this just emboss a few pieces of the foil sheet/tape at once, do the aging technique linked to above and go to town.

And gasp shock horror yes I know I am actually doing tags this year, though I also have an otp based on the same embossed foil tape technique as well to share in my next post.

As always  Mr Holtz’s tag is awesome.

Though my Stash has grown considerably re his products I still do not have loads of the things he used.

My Foil tape is from a roll I got off ebay, the numbers are from the ‘Say it’ stamp set I got for chrissy, (though the siloutte is one of his remenant rubz) and my pocket watch is from the x cut dies Pocket watches set 🙂

Of course I used diff quotes and chit chat words.

And some watch Parts however for the most part I used the same sorts of techniques. With the exception of the splatter and the stenciled background. My little dots are made with one of the Tim stamps I have.

Here it is My First Tag for 2014 😀

And so the journey begins for another year. You may wonder why I don’t add loads of ribbon and bits to the tops of my tags, honestly I like a clean look and it just feels a bit messy and cluttered to me to do so.

12 Journal Pages of 2013- December

Wow another year is almost over and I really had to think about this one owning neither frosted film or clearly for Art. I had an idea and went with it, not quite as translucent as the talented Mr Holtz

One of the best things in bringing my journaling pages together was that I got to use two new stamp sets one a Christmas Present from my Sister and Nieces and the other a set I had purchased for myself as a gift to myself.

Soo here is my December Art Journal Pages inspired by Tim’s tag

Dec Journal photo decjournal_zps8813f5dd.jpg

It started of course with my Poinsettia which I created using a Stampendous Jumbo stamp, gold embossing powder, festive berries ink and a blending tool as well as some plastic packaging and some plain vellum, sadly it photographs a lot less 3d and remember it is going in an art journal so having it to big would have been a bit much though it is 3 layers of work

 photo poinsietta_zps2b075372.jpg

I started by using some matt multi medium in a very very thin layer to add the vellum then I used a brayer to smooth it out.

Let it dry, used my blending tool with some leftover festive berries ink and coloured the vellum

I then used the spritz and flick technique to get the splotchy effect. Dried it and stamped and embossed my poinsettia, I did 3 of them the last layer being the lightest ink.

I used the clear tacky craft glue to put this together as I needed something quick drying and that would hold fast.

And when I was happy added the black gem to the centre I am really happy with how this turned out as an improvised Idea.

I then cut out my white cardstock to use for my background pages

Stained it in two diff blues then used stormy sky ink over the top, some more spritz and flick till I was happy with how cold it looked and then one of my fav techniques.

I really love creating splatters and while a fancy tool is lovely to do it with I am sure I have always just used a paintbrush and tapped it over my hand to get some great splattery effects.

You can also do this with an old toothbrush.

So I did a layer of Snow Cap stain, then Snow Cap Distress Paint and finally to give it just a bit more chill and a touch of shimmer some Pewter Distress Paint. I really love how my background turned out.

I used the word stamp from the Santa and List stamp set to stamp the bottom of my journaling pages it turned out quite subtle in some places but I liked that it was never meant to be really bold.

Added in some film strip ribbon, and some ideaology bits under my poinsettia.

Then I stamped Santa in Archival Jet Black and water coloured him in distress inks adding in some Doodlebug flock for his fluffy furry bits.

Added the Mirrored Merry Christmas from my Stash

and viola another year Done and Dusted

I am so proud of my pages for my Art Journal this year and how they turned out.

It has been a great learning curve for me and I always look forward to learning new techniques and increasing my ever growing craft wishlist.

2014 just to shock you all I am actually doing TAGS I know right that is going to be a real challenge for me as to be honest I am not a big fan of doing them but I am sure I will learn as I go!!

12 tags of 2013 November Edition

Wow what an intense couple of months it has been for me

I actually have had this done, photographed and waiting for a blog post for well over a week.

Anyway here is the link to the original Tim Holtz tag.

I so so so love the Chalkboard Technique so much though it is still something I am playing with and have yet to master I am really happy with how this turned out mixing the white and coloured chalks

 photo nov12tags_zps93189800.jpg

I used my new set of Tim Holtz Steampunk? cling stamps, some Scrappy Cat and I am pretty sure its a Kaiser or Inkadinkado frame stamp
Coloured and white Chalk and followed the instructions

Can not believe we are almost at the last journal page for this year time to start thinking what I will do for next year…

12 Tags of 2013 – October Journal

I really had fun with this even though I do not own any of the new distress glitter, apart from rock candy which I used on My Skull.

Tims Tag

I love the whole Halloween theme even if it is not such a big deal over here in the Land Down Under.

So even though there are other themes I could have picked like birthdays (Mine was the 16th) or spring, I chose to stick to the All Hallows eve theme

here it is:
 photo 12tagsoctober_zps617eb729.jpg

I started off with Dusty Concord and Frayed Burlap distress stains for my sky and dirt.

And of course used Tim’s favorite technique spritz and flick (I kinda love it to)

Then used versamark watermark ink pad to cover about 1/4 of the dirt at a time, poured over vintage photo distress embossing powder (am sure you all know how to use embossing powder if not give me a heads up and I will add a tutorial) heated and repeated this till I had the lot covered, rubbed it to get rid of the release crystals and that is how I created my dirt.

All the die cuts are Cuttlebug cut and emboss dies though I only Embossed the Halloween sign.

I painted the Graves Black (all dies are cut from some recycled packaging) then added some glossy accents and covered them in my fav black glitter Martha Stewarts Black Onyx.

I hand cut the moon, painted it in Cool Peri paint dabber, dried it, added on a smidge of black alcohol ink to add a bit of texture but it was a bit much so went over it with Pearl Mixative and the result is what you see on my page (Have to say I really love my skull moon)

The skull I left the natural colour of the packaging, added a teeny bit of black soot distress paint around the edges covered in glossy accents and glittered in Rock Candy Dry Stickles.

The Halloween sign I painted with Ripe Persimmon Distress stain and added some black soot distress paint  and a spritz or two of water to give it that sort of spooky look.

then using one of my fav Inkadinkado stamps the corner spiderweb inked in Black soot Distress ink and stamped into the page corners, then I spritzed with water to give them that sort of faded in smudgy look.

Lastly I took some Liquid pearls and added in the RIP, October (admittedly not very well I need to practice writing with these I think) and smudged a little at the bottom of the graves to look a bit like grass.

And thats it there isn’t anymore. As Tim’s post was all about glitter I did do all the graves glittered and the Skull I also had a lot of fun

Have to say really love the Distress embossing powder dirt will certainly use it again.
