A Quick Card.

I got a text message the other day, the kind every crafter dreads, you know the one just wondering if you could whip up a card for someone who is leaving.

Making my card stash null and void as there needed to be a lot of space to write in.

So here is what I came up with based on what was close to hand and in about 30mins
A Quick Card photo KymsCard_zps868d8360.jpg

I automatically thought of the Tim Holtz Bird and Cage die as it looks good and is a quick way to take up a fair amount of room.

So I cut it out of some thin chipboard (recycled packaging). Inked the cage black and then embossed it with silver and used a technique we had learned in Creative Chemistry 102 to make it look a bit more tarnished and old (though I did not get to do it as much as I wanted to to get the look really happening)

I then inked the bird and it’s wing with some distress ink and set them aside, as you can see I was in such a hurry I did not even change my blending foam and some of the black got mottled into the other colour.

I grabbed one of my new hero arts background stamps inked it in one of my fav distress colours Peacock Feathers and spritzed the whole rubber stamp with water.

I stamped it (crookedly, but I will get to that in a moment)

and then blotted off the excess with a tissue.

I took I think it was worn paper or antique linen distress ink with my blending tool and covered the whole background with it as I felt the white was a bit to bright it also aged the Peacock feathers a little as well.

It took me a few minutes to figure out how I was going to get around the crooked background that did not quite cover the whole card, when my eyes caught sight of my tape container. So out came some Washi Style Tape and I used it around 3 of the edges to cover the crookedness and the blank space.

Glued on the bird added on the prima flowers and pearls and viola a card in under 30mins 🙂 I think some days I just get very lucky as a crafter as most of the stuff was pretty close to hand.

Dr Who + Washi Tape = Tardis Card

Every Dr Who fan knows as a crafter there is very little out there in the way of ready to use Dr Who craft stuff.

Soooooooooooooooooooooo imagine the excitement when Clearsnap posted a blog in conjunction with Viva Las Vegas Stamps and gasp, excitement, woo hoo

there was a TARDIS STAMP!!!!

ok so a blue police box aherm. So we had to have it, My Sister, My friend and talented Scrapper Toni and I all got the Unmounted one so that we could all get it with post for $10.50 each. If we had got it with the cling or block mounted it would have shot the postage up.

I was so excited to get my stamp, also having found out the same day I missed my sisters Fiance’s birthday.

I have also been playing a lot with washi tape.

So of course I sat down and this card was born

The Washi Tape is from Sawyers Place
I also used a dark purple stickles glitter glue
Some Silver Embossing Powder
A fiskers Happy Birthday Stamp

and Distress inks in various blue shades from memory: Stormy Sky, broken china, salty ocean and blue jeans.

As well as a white gel pen.

Other than the Happy Birthday turning out a bit smudged looking I am quite chuffed at how my first use of this stamp turned out.

A Washi Tape Card

 photo scard_zps88d4a120.jpg

This card was done super quick (and I mean like in about 20mins). It was for my Nieces birthday even though it turned out far more Masculine than I intended for it to.

I have been playing with decorated masking tapes and washi tape cards lately using my score board to get the lines needed to cover over. Though you can tell I was in a hurry as one of my lines is still wonky even with a guide.

I used my envelope guide and did my lines 3/4″ appart 3 on each corner then added the washi tape over the lines. Pretty simple but effective and something I will try again the next time I need a masculine card.

Guest DT Spot number 2:Masculine Cards

I have to say my kit challenged me. For many reasons one being that I mostly do pretty girly things. Though I do love to stretch my creative boundaries.

On occassion I will find a project to do in a masculine way just because I want the practice at not doing ‘Pretty’ as such.

What I loved about this kit is that it also still had flowers and lace in it.

Yeah I know that was my reaction as well. I totally forgot to take a pic of the kit as I received it. Here are the cards I created (click on the first pic and it will take you to the kit on etsy)

All I added to this kit was: Brilliance Coffee Bean Ink, Versamark Watermark Ink, Ranger Antiquities Frosted Crystal embossing powder and Distress Mustard Seed Embossing Powder, Enjoy the Journey Stamps, Buzz and Bloom Pretty things (either one and two or two and three I can never remember which of the 3 sets of I have), Some hero arts back of card sentiment stamps, washi tape and some Kraft CS.

So without Further Ado “It’s a Mans World” Card Kit

I really love how well the lace worked on the first two cards. I know it is not usual to use lace or flowers on mens stuff but I wanted to show it can be done .

and last but not least a card with a twist: One part comes off and is actually a bookmark

and thats it for guest DT spot number 2 I really enjoyed the challenge and whilst it did make me scratch my head a little and wonder what on earth I was going to do for it. Once I started to play the Ideas flowed and you can see the results.

Day 4 Card 2 Graphic Stamps

I loved doing my own Acetate background especially as it gave me a chance to play with A very Deco Looking Buzz and Bloom Stamp Set I have. Love the torn washi tape boarder, I have used it in the past and it gives a kind of funky distressed look with so very little work (has the added benefit of making your washi tape go further as well)

Thoughts, finished projects and ideas.

So this has been a creative couple of weeks. Yet sadly I cannot share with you some of the things I have been creating. They are for a commission and I am unable to share them until they arrive at their destination.

I am awash with creative ideas; however my creative space is a bomb site. Worse since containers fell over out of nowhere (all sorted again now). The Commission bear turned out better than I had hoped. Especially after the whole safety eye debacle (took me 3 tries and a lot of needle sculpting to get the eyes almost even)

Also created were some inchies for an Artistic Document Swap, I had E and V and the theme was storybook, a bit worried mine will be to plain a my printer is being painful and I know that loads of people printed out little micro images and such.

In the meantime Doodling with Jim Henson is sitting there waiting for me to actually start doodling with Jim (I have read the book it is amazing and I can’t wait to play). Also arriving last week a book called how to draw anything. I have had a look at it; read some am not convinced it is for me. Not sure I am the copy everything type of person but then again perhaps I will be in the mood for it at a different point and also my how to draw fairies and mermaids arrived. So now onto my wish list goes some different sized fine tip black markers (like the Pitt set), water colours, some books to use to practice in, and some new lead pencils. I swear that list always gets longer rather than shorter. Then again there are so many new things to try and techniques to play with.

This year is filled with creative potential. It is the 10th anniversary of me as a bear artist. So along with the unique one of a kind creations each bear made this year bears a very special place as a 10th anniversary bear. Amongst my bear plans are a Mama Umbridge (for those of you who have no idea who that is Might I suggest watching A Very Potter Sequel by Team Starkid), a set of popcorn bears complete with popcorn container, a Marilyn Monbear (from diamonds are a girl’s best friend) and perhaps I will even get my teddy bears picnic scene done, or even my tangled in the Christmas lights on a ladder bear, there is a list of ideas I have floating around here somewhere and quite a few various props floating around. I also have ideas for a 2012 runway collection.

To date I have made over 200 bears. I am looking forward to the challenges some of my new bear ideas will bring.

This is the first non commission bear of this year. Yet to be named (if you have any ideas feel free to comment). The Recycled Curtain fabric has been hand doodled and then hand coloured in using sharpie markers. It did bleed a touch in places but I think it adds to the arty look of the bear.

And of course from the front

As you can see each time you look there is something new to discover. That is the beauty of the hand doodled fabric there is so much to see and delight in.

Not only this but I am determined to aide my inner artist to flourish. In any ways I can be it scrapping, drawing, mixed media, or other things.

Also received some wonderful washi tape this week(my first and I love it). Had a play with it by making a card for a friend. Also I revamped a friendship book I had made a batch of a couple of  Christmases ago from some Martha Stewart wedding programs I got cheap and immediately thought oooh these would make awesome little books or mini albums ($5 for 20 of them on clearance no brainer). So here is the card and the revamped cover. I used the same washi tape so that they would go together. The beauty of the Wedding programs is that not only were they cheap but also as long as you do not use bulky embellishments they fit easily into a card to post. So make a wonderful and thoughtful gift without adding the added expense of extra postage especially when it comes to posting overseas.

So here is the Card very ‘Raindrops Keep Falling on my Head’

and here is the Card and Friendship book together.

I cannot wait to share the commission bear and the card I made for the new parents. It will however be a few weeks before I can do so.

In the meantime create up a storm

For me I will be cleaning up my craft and other spaces as I have new storage here that is yet to be put together as it needs spaces to go into. Can’t wait though as now I should well and truly have a spot for all my craft needs including my bear supplies. This should also help me reduce the amount of stuff that is lacking homes. After all I will have 32 cubes of storage that can all go together to form a wall of craft supplies. The more I sort things the more in some places I realise I need more containers and other such storage bits and pieces to maximise what I can fit in them. Although I am not sure they will all be filled as yet. It is great to be able to look and see where things are as well as it means I am also using more of the stuff I do have as I know where it is.

Well that’s me updated for now. Hope to have more to share with you soon.

May your inspiration flow
