A Little Bit of Nerdmas Magic

I know it has been a while, crazy crazy year (seriously)

Inspired by the fact a friend bought me some Nerdy Christmas Ornaments the urge to create something purely for the Joy of the season and for me.

And  if I am totally honest because I have not seen one anywhere else before (I mean it may exist really I did do a google image search and search pintrest there is the Actual Tardis police box shape and all but you will see what I mean)

Soo I have recently unpacked my box of Off the Page Projects of which (I am a bit of a collector especially of the Kaiser MDF things, mini albums and such are fantastic quick and simple gifts in a time crunch)

I stumbled across a Santa Sleigh, technically this was supposed to be for me to do a Santa Bear, bu ut my Nerdmas ornaments were about to be delivered and I had no tree thus an idea was born.

Sooo I prepped the MDF sleigh with a couple of coats of Prima Heavy Body Gesso

Added over with Liquitex basics Primary Blue which turned out super patchy and I was trying to get the colour more tardis’y

soo then I added a bit of white to a ceramcoat blue I have hear and two coats later all splotchyness was gone.

After that I tried to add in the white squares without much success sooo I die cut them out of white cardstock and then painted overthem in ceramcoat white

added in some Police Public call box ribbon and did the fiddly adding of the gold braid to the edges

Think You will agree for a whim that I had no Idea how to accomplish am pretty stoked with the results.
This will certainly be making an Annual Appearance at my House that is for sure.

Not sure who will be pulling the Sleigh Next year as I really am hoping to have my act together and ornaments made for my Nerdmas Tree next year.

I’ve got a Golden Ticket

golden tickets

A friend of mine posted on her facebook status that her daughter made a wish to go to Willy Wonka’s  Chocolate factory, and whilst we can not quite make that wish come true she is doing her best to at least make as much of it come true as possible.

I totally love this Inkadinkado stamp set and it has gotten quite a workout over the years.

I could not help but want to assist in making this friends Daughters dream of finding a golden ticket and going to a chocolate factory come true.

So with a ticket die, the Inkadinkado stamps and some gold DCWV cardstock all stamped in Archival Jet Black ink I made these and sent them off to her.

Can not wait to hear about the rest of the adventure and her reaction when she finds her golden ticket.

Poker Chip Mat Tutorial

This year one of my goals is to post at least a tutorial a Month, I am a bit late with Last Months so here it is.

It is a little tricky at first, however stick with it as once you get the hang of it it is really simple and easy :). It also can be made bigger or smaller depending on your needs.

A great decorative Piece for the Poker, Vegas, or other gambling type themed Party

9 thick plastic poker chips

24 small screw eyes

12 jump rings

Step 1: Lay out your poker chips into the pattern you want, I have used one colour here however you can easily mix and match your poker chips for a funky patterned look.

Step 2 Take Your Awl (you can find these really cheap on ebay) and gently poke a hole in your Poker chip. It does not have to be a huge hole but at least enough to start to put your screw eye in.

For corners you need 2 holes one side and one bottom/top depending on position

For the sides you need 3 and for the center you need 4 (this will of course vary depending on how big you are making your mat)

Continue with each poker chip until you have the holes you need.

It pays to have a couple of extra in case of mishaps, also please please go slow and be careful as Awls are very sharp and it is easy to slip if your not paying attention to what your doing.

Step 3: Put your screw eyes into each hole, I do this just enough so that they stay in, as I find its quicker to have them all in then do the next step

Step 3: Take your pliers in one hand and your poker chip in the other and twist in your Screw eye’s. I found this a little difficult with some of the screw eyes, so you may need to push down hard with the pliers. The Pliers also save very sore fingers.

Step 4: Connect your poker chips together. Using your jump rings and starting at the top corner and working on the first two rows then adding in the last one (or more if you are doing a larger Mat)

I stretched the Jump rings first by placing on the nose of my pliers and opening them a little. I also used the pliers to close them again to keep the mat together.

and viola here is the finished Mat. The great thing about this tutorial is you can so easily adapt it, you can take the basic idea of the screw eyes and thick poker chips to make jewellery, a Poker chip version of a beaded curtain, a chandelier the list is endless of the variations and ways you can use this basic idea.

Dusk and Halloween Themed Baby Shower Set

I have been waiting to share this set of things with you until after the event. A wonderful friend and adopted daughter in the States is pregnant YAY and as a small gift to her I made her baby shower invites, thank you cards and wish cards so people can write their wishes for Daphane when she is born.

You may remember the Jemima Puddleduck birth announcements I did well they are for the same person. I am so Happy for Leah and Brandon.

As soon as she told me the theme was dusk and halloween I knew I had to use the child on a swing stamp from MPress (sorry I have been looking and looking but not been able to find this stamp anywhere if anyone has a link to somewhere that has them in stock can you please comment with it as I know a few people dying to get their hands on it!), the thing that took the longest were the embossed spider webs but I think they really made the invite. Add to this the baby’s room will be done with birds and you have the thank you cards as well.

The first pic is the set of 3 so you can see how it all works together

The invites:

The Thank you cards

and the wish tags

I was so happy not only with how all of these turned out but also with the reaction of the person I sent them to. It is always wonderful when someone loves what you have created for them.

So next time your going to or throwing a baby shower create wish tags for the unborn child. It is something they can keep forever and just that little something a bit different.

Birth Announcements

A wonderful friend and Adopted Daughter in the States is Pregnant. I am so excited for her. So when I heard it also gave me a chance to put some of my ‘baby’ stamps to use. Mostly my birth announcement and Beatrix Potter stamps.

This is what I came up with, they are hand painted with Winsor and Newton watercolours. I did these almost like a collector card to save not only postage but resources.

So here they are…

appologies for the glut of catch up blogs you are about to see 🙂
