I know cutting it fine this month as well, even worse my Journal pages have been finished for almost 2 full weeks.

I have been rather busy with a bear commission. Which I will share a pic of later today.

Here is the Link to the Maestro Mr Tim Holtz’s Tag

I don’t have the Distress Markers and if I am completely honest am in no hurry to own them, yes I have played with them but given I own a lot of the inks and both water pens I think they are not a high priority for this budget scrapper.

As soon as I saw the tag I knew what I wanted to do. Use my Midnight Fair Stamps as they are perfect to colour.

I used salty ocean distress paint, mowed lawn ink, and stormy sky stain but instead of going down my manila cardstock I went across to give the look of water, grass and sky. (See Tim’s post link above for how to do it)

I then did a little misting and spritz and flick. Pulled out a Tim ATC stamp to stamp the background and a kaiser stamp for the little fancy 1/4 circle things.

Stamped my Midnight Fairies and watercoloured them with distress inks and water brushes.

Added a smidge of perfect pearls to the fairies wings and to create the sparkle effect (just felt like a change from glitter) also wrote the month in perfect pearls.

I added the flowers which look very funny in the pics but are really sweet pearlescent ones with a small raised red dot in the center

and viola this months take was done.

Kind of simple looking but I am really happy with how it turned out.

One Very Hot Day in January

When the weather was over 40 degrees celcius and I was invited to my Sisters to enjoy her portable air conditioner. I decided instead of just taking my laptop and a book to read,  I would take something creative to do.

Usually I would take a bear or some other sewing type project with me. However I decided to pack my How to Draw Fairies and Mermaids book and my watercolours. Along with a giant watercolour pad (seriously if you do this stick to A4 it took me hours and hours to get this done)

My youngest Niece had a go at creating her own fairies as well though she got bored as kids do.

The picture I created is for a friend who is very much into fairies. its not perfect in fact I forgot how I wanted some of the fairies to be swimming and there was an arguement over my creation of Jellyfish in my Pond however I did point out to Miss 10 it is my imagination and I am allowed to have Jellyfish if I want to.

Anyway here is the pic I cant remember the actual size but its at least 2 and half A4 sheets worth or more maybe 3…..

A little bit more love

I really love how this one turned out the quote is one I resonate with and I am still getting the hang of layering with stains and stuff so it is interesting to see how things turn out at times

 photo ll16_zps4986dea7.jpg

I have to say no matter how many times I use it I love the swish and flick technique of Tim’s its so handy and can add some pretty funky splatters to your work

 photo ll15_zps3646b765.jpg

another fav is to use distress inks as watercolours like in this postcard of a very sweet fairy scene

 photo ll14_zps8a8a5f67.jpg

sometimes a bit of funky doodling works well. I used American Crafts metallic markers on this and really love how it turned out.

as there are only a couple more postcards I want to share I will add them here 🙂 then onto some simple cards

I love this Kaiser stamp and the gradation of the stains even though its really hard to see in the photo

A Little bit of Love

This year I am undertaking a project it started as 365 days of love letters to strangers but is evolving into something that encompasses everything from letters, cards and postcards (all handmade by me) to small handmade items and other such things.

It is quite exciting to see what I will come up with next for this project think of it like a giant year filled with random acts of kindness. Imagine walking along and finding a letter or small gift from a stranger just for you for no reason other than to let you know you are cared for. 365 Days of Love. I am sharing everything I write on my Heavenly Musings Blog

So it will take a few posts but I really want to share what I have been creating especially as I have really enjoyed the process.

Lets start with some postcards (using tattered angels stamps and various other things and lots of distress and Tim Holtz stuff of course)
This was just me playing and stepping out of my ‘usual’ style a bit

I think this next postcard is on of my favorites. I really love the way the salty ocean stain and Picket fence paint dabber mixed to create the ocean, plus I love blending the stains to create beautiful sunsets its really easy and effective.

Anyone who knows me knows how much I adore my midnight fairy stamps. I totally love how sponging a little pewter stain over 3 different blue stains gives this a more mystical look

and finally for this post another sunset with something else I am rather addicted to butterflies

A little bit of Girlie Grunge Fairy Magic

This months challenge over at Girlie Grunge (see my sidebar for the link) is to create a gift using Donna Salazar Products.

As my blog readers know I recently purchased the Rose and Carnation Creation dies. I have been playing with making flowers from different types of papers and the Comb I created won not only Artist of the Month on the Girlie Grunge site but also the August Colour Challenge on Jelly Bean Scrappers for which it was created. Rather exciting stuff.

Anyway I bought a wand from our local and rather awesome cheapie shop called Jolly Ollies (they often have a lot of crafty things that are really good quality at very low prices) so I got the plain wooden wand.

I painted it with a combination of paint dabbers, used some impasto over a glimmer screen to create the raised bits. Used some glossy accents over them and sprinkled on the glitter and Made the rose in the center with The Rose Creations Dies and some plain brown paper. Which I again used the paint dabbers on (2 shades of pinks and a smidge of white) before dabbing on a little glue and glittering the flower (I did the same thing for all the flowers in the circlet)

Next I used some ribbon and criss crossed it down the handle of the wand like ballet slippers (how cute would this be for a flower girl) and misted some tulle with Smooch Spritz in Pralines and Cream. Tore it into strips and knotted it around the wand.

To make the circlet I started with some beading wire plated together and then formed into a circle. Built up layers of tulle (also misted with pralines and cream smooch spritz). Wrapping them around to build up a base for the flowers to be attatched to and also to create a little bit of hanging detail at the back. The wrapped around some pearl trim, and ribbon. Attatched the flowers by adding wire to the back of the brads and twisting it around the circlet. The butterflies were created with brown paper and wire (make circles all the same size, attatch two together and cover in brown paper till you have built up around 4-6 layers, let dry then cut around the edges of the wire, paint and glitter) and viola a very sweet gift for one very lucky little girl 🙂

So here it is :

Day 9 Card 1

I am not going to lie and say oh this was super easy. The amount of fussy cutting to mask was a (insert a curse word here). However thanks the the technique video from Class I finally understand the whole layered stamping/Masking thing and as I have read about this in the past and looked at stuff and been lost have to say that is a major achievement in itself.

I did however muck it up when I slipped and pink smooch accents went somewhere it shouldn’t and would not be removed. My first attempt to cover it with a matchingly painted piece of Neenah well it looked tacky so instead of putting my sentiment over the water like I had planned I put “Have a Magical Day” over the boo boo and viola no one would ever be the wiser. I was reluctant to waste all my work over one small boo boo. I added a little glossy accents over the sentiment and inked the edges just so it stood out a little from the background. I also smeared triple thick over the water (one of my fav new things to do) to give it a glossy water like sheen.

ok enough rambling here is the card (I soo love the Midnight fairies stamps they are so versatile not only did I use the fairies but also the mushrooms and grass from the set)

Another Winning Layout

Another month full of Wonderful challenges over atPhotobucket

The Layout challenge I won was a little different. First you needed to create at least 3 ATC’s (Artist Trading Cards for those of you who have not encountered these wee works of art as yet) and then use them on a Layout. I did two lots of ATC’s for this challenge the first the cute little fairies that I have been playing with in watercolours, however they did not fit into the background I created being so bright and colourful and the background turned out more muted.
So I put my thinking cap on and pulled out my Papermania Midnight Fairies stamps. And this is the result. (add in some Winsor and Newton watercolours and some smooch pearlised accents and Inkadinkado bird stamps)What I love about this is that it allowed me to mix in Art with Scrapbooking and yet still keep it mostly a watercolour picture that blends in stamping and painting.
Here is the Layout (I also used some home made glaze over the watercolour on the water to give the water a shiny effect)

Photobucket

I am so excited that this Layout won a prize because it took so much work to get it just right. I was such a wonderful challenge because it did just that challenged me and pushed me out of my comfort zones always a great thing creatively!
