A little bit of Girlie Grunge Fairy Magic

This months challenge over at Girlie Grunge (see my sidebar for the link) is to create a gift using Donna Salazar Products.

As my blog readers know I recently purchased the Rose and Carnation Creation dies. I have been playing with making flowers from different types of papers and the Comb I created won not only Artist of the Month on the Girlie Grunge site but also the August Colour Challenge on Jelly Bean Scrappers for which it was created. Rather exciting stuff.

Anyway I bought a wand from our local and rather awesome cheapie shop called Jolly Ollies (they often have a lot of crafty things that are really good quality at very low prices) so I got the plain wooden wand.

I painted it with a combination of paint dabbers, used some impasto over a glimmer screen to create the raised bits. Used some glossy accents over them and sprinkled on the glitter and Made the rose in the center with The Rose Creations Dies and some plain brown paper. Which I again used the paint dabbers on (2 shades of pinks and a smidge of white) before dabbing on a little glue and glittering the flower (I did the same thing for all the flowers in the circlet)

Next I used some ribbon and criss crossed it down the handle of the wand like ballet slippers (how cute would this be for a flower girl) and misted some tulle with Smooch Spritz in Pralines and Cream. Tore it into strips and knotted it around the wand.

To make the circlet I started with some beading wire plated together and then formed into a circle. Built up layers of tulle (also misted with pralines and cream smooch spritz). Wrapping them around to build up a base for the flowers to be attatched to and also to create a little bit of hanging detail at the back. The wrapped around some pearl trim, and ribbon. Attatched the flowers by adding wire to the back of the brads and twisting it around the circlet. The butterflies were created with brown paper and wire (make circles all the same size, attatch two together and cover in brown paper till you have built up around 4-6 layers, let dry then cut around the edges of the wire, paint and glitter) and viola a very sweet gift for one very lucky little girl 🙂

So here it is :

Launching My Cooking Blog and Showing off One of my August Jellybean challenges

Hi everyone first let me introduce you to heavenly cooking as I am often asked for recipes for things I make and have decided it is high time I start documenting these things. The first recipe is for a very healthy and wonderful Banana Bread.

So now back to crafting. I have been so excited to experiment with my new Donna Salazar Rose Creation Dies. I actually need to take some pics of the flowers I have been creating to show you just how incredibly versatile this set of Dies is. Well worth the investment because you will find yourself using them over and over again.

Anyway the Colour Challenge for August was oranges, and golds with a smidge of black and limish green thrown in.

Here is what I created I am also very excited to announce that this Comb has gotten me Featured Artist on Donna Salazar’s Girlie Grunge Ning Site for this Month!!!

Not something you can wear in the rain as such but still something very pretty.
I used the rose creation dies, some cardstock, distress ink, Pitch Black Alcohol Ink, cake decorating and nail art tools, some bling and a little pearl mist along with some tulle.

Butteflies, Butterflies, Butterflies

Now I know butterflies are always on trend. For me they are also a sign of transformation. I have always been a lover of butterflies and as you know by now I truly love to create something a little different.

Recently I got my first brayer and honestly I have not really played with it much at all.

After a bit of experimenting with adding the ink to my embossing folders and them embossing cs honestly I was not that enchanted with the results.

So instead I embossed first then used my inked up brayer over the embossed images and loved how the butterflies turned out.

I also (and I know other people may well have before me) discovered that when using my giant tattered angels butterfly on one of my Cuttlebug Plates that if I add a smidge of thin express it tape at the corners, ink up the butterfly, place your card stock (CS) over the image an press down to attach to the corners of the plate, then use a clean brayer over the top of the stamp. You get a perfect image every time! This makes me happy for a number of reasons but most importantly no more wasted butterflies or cardstock.

So you may be wondering why I am talking about butterflies we ell this week I made a Headband resplendent with butterflies both the large Tattered Angels stamp and the Cuttlebug cut and emboss butterflies. A little wire, a few feathers (well the very fluffy end bits) some paper roses, some hand coloured tulle (coloured the same way as I did for the 12 tags of Christmas), and some Bling.

Here are the results both on my head and taken of just the butterfly spray.

I used triple thick in a thin layer over both sides of the butterflies it had the added benefit of strengthening the colours of the ink and I am hoping offering a little protection from the elements. The headband is a very thin silver metal one hence why you really cant see it in the pics.
