A Little Locker

By now you are all well and truly aware I am not only a budget scrapper but a bargain hunter as well.

Nearly all my craft supplies have been gotten on Sale, or at a discounted rate.

I recycle everything I can think of.

I also look for things to play with (though have to stop myself sometimes as I have been trying to use up the OTP stuff I have, needless to say I am almost out of MDF albums and fun stuff to play with)

Anyway the OP shop (opportunity or second hand shop for non Aussies) near my Councilor is a treasure trove of interesting items.

I recently Discovered that they have a section out the back with old jeans for just 50c ( perfect for crafting with at that price and no sadness at killing erm I mean upcycling a pair of jeans)

I have also scored many a good 30-50c book, a whole container with about 60 slide covers again 50c, a bag of dominoes for 2oc

and this little Locker which once upon a time came with a Mary Kate or Ashley Olsen Doll for 50c. It still had the faux magazines and books inside it.

This is just phase one of this project I have an idea for it but it will take some $$$ to get the things I want and a little inventiveness on my part.

Now because I like to pin my posts and I am not clever enough with photo editing to put the pics all Into one I will start with what I have done to it then show you what it looked like to begin with etc. Almost backwards but not quite.

So here is what I have so far (remember this is just a smidge bigger than a barbie type doll):

and here is what the locker looked like originally

and here is is covered in Foil Tape (I got a rather large 2″ wide roll from ebay by searching foil tape worldwide it was about $4 and it is well worth the money as it goes very far.) I was tempted to leave it like this cause its kind of fun and funky all silver but I really do have an idea for where I want to take it.

and again how it looks now.

I embossed the foil tape by tearing it into strips the length of my Cuttlebug embossing folder. I embossed about 4 strips at a time as they are thin and it is much quicker this way. I also did the strips in different sections of the folder so I could mix up the looks.

I then took each strip and used alcohol inks in Lettuce, rust and another colour. Painted it with Black Ranger Paint dabber, left it to dry overnight and then lightly sanded off some of the black paint. I find the steel wool technique does not seem to work very well for me and flattens the embossing a bit to much for my liking.
The best part about the foil tape is that it is very forgiving and easy to add more where needed.

12 Tags of 2012 August!

Wow how time is flying in the midst of being surrounded by black, spiderwebs, swings and dusty concord watercoloured cardstock I saw this months amazing tag.

My mind started to tick into overdrive and so amidst the Dusk/Halloween themed baby shower invites this months Coaster was born.

I don’t have a lot of the stuff Tim used, but did get the Royal Roses Dynamics Die this week and some time ago get one of the Texture fades sets with a frame add into this an Inkadinkado Frames stamp set, a little imagination by using a cameo ( a few years ago packs of cameos were going cheap at spotlight I snagged quite a few pre the cameo craze).

No tattered florals here either so I kept this very simple. Used black embossing powder on the frame, embossed around it and followed the other instructions even used Kraft Core for my flowers.

Add in some inked Girls Papierie word Stickers that I inked so they fit the theme and viola this months coaster is finished (I am so excited as I can see the project I have in mind totally comming together can not wait to have 12 of these)

anyway enough rambling here is my Coaster (remember less room on a 4″x4″ coaster)

June Coaster

Now I know there are a lot of people dying to hear all about my Journey to Sydney and Artful Flight and Meeting a certain Mr Holtz and I will be getting to those posts soon.

However I finished my Coaster for this Month and was so excited I wanted to share it with you all.
There is a technique I am in love with and it is so simple and cheap. You wont really see what it has done even looking at the coaster closely, it is one of those indefinable things that adds an extra layer of grittyness to your aged and worn looks. I used it in the 12 tags of Christmas and have been using it ever since. Soft willow charcoal. However instead of applying it to the edges of the paper this time I rubbed a little along some paper to get some dust up then smudged the charcoal dust over the Patterned Paper before using a blending tool, some foam and Tea Dye, Vintage Photo and Walnut Stain Distress Inks (I also used a little of the last two on my flower and then Misted it)

The flower arrived in an Amazing Package of Vintage Girl Swap items from the Amazing Ladies at Jelly Bean Scrappers

I did ink over the top of it then Misted it. It was already that pretty dusky pink colour.

I added two Mulberry Rose Leaves, an I Kan Dee (from quite some time ago) Word Charm that I used a little Picket fence on Just like Tim Taught us on Sunday and a Jute String Bow. The paper is from Kaisers Vintage Timeless 6×6 pad (great value for money lots of PP and very well priced)  And Viola simple, and very pretty

Here it is:

What it has made me realise is that I want to re do my Febuary Coaster I never quite gelled with it completely. However now it does not really fit in to the look of the other coasters and for what I have in mind it just kind of stands out like a sore thumb so I will keep some elements like the flower and the heart and have a play and see what I come up with.

May Coaster

I know I know where is April’s coaster I hear you asking me. It is almost finished just needs a finishing touch of course it would help if I could actually find the thing

Here is the link to T!m’s version  http://timholtz.com/12-tags-of-2012-may/

I eneded up using 2 layers of pattern paper on mine, I inked and played with it a bit however it was to dark so I used Jenni Bowlins Malted Milk Paint dabber to tone it down . Stamped on some flourishes in Gold and added some of my faux enamelled/porceline flowers to the corners along with a little tissue paper skirt I made.

Think it will take me a bit more practice to get the flowers then again it may well be how fast the Utee sets here now that it is winter.

So here it is my May Coaster
